I’m in NYC this week for an interview, Photo Pro Expo (a photographers convention) and portrait sessions. So far I have enjoyed one day off doing a little bit of shopping, a lot of walking and absolutely no picture taking whatsoever! I promise I’ll post something tomorrow!
Congratulations Aron and Scott!
Wow – what a day! unseasonably warm fall weather with beautiful sunshine, and an amazing time that ran into the wee hours of the night!
Look at how amazing Aron looks!
it always takes the guys less time…
the rush
the church
sharing a laugh before going down the aisle
love balconeys!
look at that gorgeous light!
What a difference a lighting designer makes no? Its the number one thing I tell people to spend money on (he, besides the photographer) because it has such an impact on the final images!
the single most hysterical thing I think I have ever seen at a wedding – the groom and two buddies choreographed a dance and lip synced to a love song for the bride! Good thing there is autofocus – I was laughing so hard tears were streaming down my face!

I try not to wait for thanksgiving to find things to be thankful for. The beautiful sunsets are one of the joys of daily living in this part of the world! What are you thankful for in your daily life?
Congratulations you two! What a gorgeous day in September for an outdoor event! And what an amazing place to have it! The Lewis Ginter Gardens in Richmond are just stunning every time I go!
the guys were ready to go!
the bride had a bit more to do to get ready…
but it was worth the wait no?
Look at that glorious light!
a little comic relief with the mixed up words!
did I mention how beautiful it was?
I love how less than 20 minutes later, the light had changed so drastically!
the official dances are always a favorite for me!
and for those rare clients that do the bouquet/garter tradition, it can be a source of some amusing images!
did I promise I was or was NOT going to post this one? (GRIN)
Its nice when the bride and groom get to take a short break sometime during the course of events. Ask your coordinator to run interference for you for a few minutes just so you get a chance to catch your breathe (and eat some of that good food!)
I love happy endings!

wedding present
there is just something so amazing about what the human voice can do…
and the joy in the music that children share with us.
prep talk
I think this is my favorite image from this wedding – it might even be added to the gallery website!
they obviously have a special relationship…
I’m really excited about this picture – not so much because of the picture itself (although I Do like the neat fish eye rounded effect) It’s more about what it represents. This church has very very restrictive rules for photographers – ordinarily, they allow ONE shot from the narthex and then the doors are closed. After working in this church for over 7 years, with ever increasing freedoms, at this wedding, I was given permission to shoot what I wanted from the back! It shows that trust can be earned with mutual respect and time.
a VERY special relationship…
the pretty club after the fire…!!
I’ve had a string of rocking bands this month! These guys are also going on my referral list! Casper

A photographer buddy of mine does something quite wonderful at this time of year. He holds a Photo Marathon in his portrait studio in Old Town Alexandria and creates amazing works of art for charity. His subjects are you, me and anyone else who wants to contribute to this wonderful event. What do you get out of it? Well, besides getting a wonderful portrait done of you/your family/dogs/goldfish, you get to know that EVERY cent of your session goes to a family in need. I could go on, but why don’t you click through to Matt’s link about it and read for yourself!
I love my man in brown! This is what he brought me today and what will be shipping out tomorrow (after a careful QC and repackaging)
First up we have a gorgeous canvas print of a certain little toddler! This was done with a gallery wrap which eliminates the need for a frame and creates a great graphic presentation on the wall!
Next up we have a beautiful album for Harper. She is the third of three sisters; they each have their own individual albums created within weeks of their birth – how fun! The pink glove leather matches her sisters’ books and each cover was personalized with a photographic image of their names in the house somewhere!
The pages feature a light and pretty silver gilding.
The white mats are enhanced with the pretty silver.
And the end sheets of the book are made from real silk!
and no pictures of the third and final shipment but in its own way, its the most exciting thing! Allegra’s Studio will be introducing projection proofing for all of our portrait clients starting this fall (as soon as the equipment is installed and tested!) This year, I’ve been to numerous educational seminars about running a successful portrait studio and the one thing that their clients all raved about was the ease and facility of ordering with projection proofing!
I will be right there to help answer any questions about cropping, zooming in, color vs black and white etc etc. My clients will be able to view their images at the ACTUAL size on the wall so it will be soo easy to figure out what the right print to get it! I can’t wait to get started! I’ll post here with pictures once it’s ready to go live!
How can September weather get more perfect than it was today in Virginia? How about have the honor of photographing a fabulous wedding!?
this is the kind of day it was.
check out those eyelashes!
I like the way the multiple framing works in this image…
the first look…
great homily by the good Father!
a fun sort of picture with a funky color treatment
a moment with Dad
did I mention what a beautiful day it was?
obligatory bling shot!! (bling from Andrew Minton in Cville)
yummy looking and tasting cake
and, pretty flowers. except for the little purple issue.
can I just tell you how rocking the band was?? They are definitely going on my referral list! I think this picture gives you a feel for the energy in the room that night!
my able second, Tom Sanderson got this shot – I love the focused look on the face of the Farmington staff guy as he lights everybody’s sparkler!

Not just any cake but wedding cake. One of the perks of my job is the opportunity to taste wedding cakes (most times – I do let the guests get a piece first!!) And while a so so cake is unfortunately common, a really good wedding cake is a rare and wonderful thing! My shout out for the best wedding cake I’ve ever had goes to Loretta of Cakes by Loretta!
I first had her cake at Debbie and Timi’s wedding in 2004.
Not only were the cakes beautifully decorated,
they were the best cakes I had ever tasted!! Did I mention cakes, plural? Debbie was so impressed with her cakes she got two since she couldn’t make up her mind! (Debbie, right there with you!) I was lucky enough to have a huge piece of the most amazingly moist key lime cake and a little nibble of the chocolate cake remains (there were not many remains!) If you’re in the DC metro area, I urge you to put Loretta on your list of cake people to try. You’ll be glad you did!
