We all have favorite weddings and one of mine from last year was just featured on Hill City Bride!
How tickled I was to receive a phone call from a fellow wedding vendor congratulating me on being voted one of the top photographers in the area! I was all the more delighted since it was completely unexpected – I hadn’t even posted or asked folks to vote for me! All of which simply means, in the immortal words of Sally Field, you like me! You really really like me! Thank you to all my fantastic clients for the honor!
Lots of stuff going on downtown today! First of all, we’ll be open for First Fridays in our new space – still some arranging to do but its coming along! Come on down and get a sneak peek and enter to win one of our fabulous prize giveaways*! We’re in suite 106 at Riverviews and we’ll be open from 6-8. Secondly, I have a piece hanging in the new show opening at the Academy of Fine Arts. They will be open from 5-8 tonight – go check out my work as well as the interpretation of the theme of “Reflections” from other local photographers.

A gorgeous classic Southern fall wedding at the Trivium Estate – could the weather have been any more perfect?
How did you meet?
George and I met while out with mutual friends during the DC snow storm that became known as “Snowmageddon”. We spent the rest of the night chatting and dancing the night away… We stayed out so late that George couldn’t catch a cab and had to walk a mile home in the snow. The rest is history!
How did you choose your venue?
Our ceremony venue was very special to me and an easy choice; we got married at the church I was raised in and where my parents were married. As for the reception venue, I wanted a place that would show our out of town guests the southern charm and natural beauty of the area that I love. Once we saw the Trivium, we knew there was no need to look any further – it was perfect for us.
Tell us about your dress, shoes and other accessories!
I wore a classic, vintage inspired ivory lace Simone Carvalli gown. It had a scalloped, sweetheart neckline and hem, and a champagne ruched sash accented with a Swarovski crystal motif at the center. As much as I loved my dress I might have loved my veil more! It was a cascading, chapel length Toni Federici veil with lace appliques on the train. I wore gold lace peep toe pumps by Stuart Weitzman – they were comfortable and most importantly I could dance in them all night long!
What detail did you like best about your wedding day?
We wanted every detail of our wedding to be personal to us, so it is hard to pick just one but if I had too I would say our homemade apple butter favors. They were the perfect seasonal, tasty treat for our guests.
Describe your decor and how you chose it?
Our decor was inspired by the season and we used deep fall colors throughout. We made a lot of it ourselves, from the programs to the centerpiece containers, to ensure it had the personal touches we wanted. Our tables were dressed in brown pintuck linens, with gold chargers, and moss wrapped centerpieces with flowers inreds, oranges, yellows, and greens. We had three different style centerpieces but my favorite was the manzanita trees with hanging crystals, pearls and votives.
What was your favorite moment during your wedding day?
Our favorite moment was our first dance together – it was a special moment for us and we felt like we were the only two in the room.
Tell us about your food and cake!
Our wedding cake was decorated with gold and pearl accents and had three flavors. They were all so delicious but our favorite was the almond cake with raspberry filling. We also had a coffee and hot apple cider bar for guests to enjoy later in the night.
What’s next on your calendar as a couple?
We just returned from our honeymoon to St. Lucia and are looking forward to the holidays. We are headed to Lexington, Virginia for Thanksgiving with George’s parents and then to Ocala, Florida for Christmas with mine. A great way to round out the most wonderful year yet!

Whimsy and elegance merged in this fall wedding in Lynchburg. Anne and Erik’s downtown reception was highlighted by balloons and one single red balloon in honor of Anne’s favorite childhood story. But I’m going to let them tell you about meeting when they were four and how it was so important to them to feature downtown in their celebration!
How did you meet?
We both went to First Presbyterian Day Care together (Erik always as Superman and Anne as Minnie Mouse), but we didn’t really become friends until middle school and got to be very good friends at the end of high school, but didn’t start dating until were conveniently a thousand miles apart–Erik went to the University of Wisconsin and Anne went to UVA.
How did you choose your venue?
We both love downtown–Erik has lived here for two years, and Anne is a city planner by training with an interest in downtown revitalization and historic preservation. Tresca was an obvious choice—great example of adaptive reuse and the interior is fantastic!
Tell us about your dress, shoes and other accessories!
Dress is by Watters (from a store outside Philadelphia), and the one thing I “knew” I didn’t want in my dress was a pattern that faded out—whoops that’s what I got.
Shoes were Kate Spade and SO comfortable
The pearls I wore were my grandmothers and the rings on my right hand were given to me by my parents on my 16th and 21st birthdays.
I had a gardenia in my hair but really kept it pretty simple!
What detail did you like best about your wedding day?
When Erik’s voice cracked when we were saying our vows
Describe your decor and how you chose it!
We like to keep things light and fun and weren’t too particular so we ended up with bright colors, polka dots, and balloons! (Rod Meek is the best at making it all work)!
Anne loved balloons as a child and loves polka dots to this day and it was easy to incorporate those festive details. In one of the balloon displays there was a single red balloon to pay homage to the 1956 movie, The Red Balloon, that Anne watched on repeat as a toddler. Polka dots were on the men’s ties and the cake and worked great with big round balloons!
What was your favorite moment during your wedding day?
Dancing to the Power of Love (from Back to the Future) with each other! Also getting pummeled with flowers when we were leaving the reception (some of you weren’t playing nice)!!
Tell us about your food and cake!
Avenue Foods did the dinner. Anne loves seafood and Erik is a tough sell on anything without legs so we tried to do a mixture of surf, turf, and southern (for the out of towners making the long trek).
When Erik’s grandfather came to the United States from Norway, he started a successful, family-run bakery in a small town in Georgia. Erik’s Aunt Lila now carries the family tradition and makes specialty cakes out of her home in Augusta, Georgia. She made this one in Erik’s parent’s house with alternating tiers of almond, carrot and pumpkin spice. Lila outdid herself on this 5-tier polka-dotted masterpiece.
What’s next on your calendar as a couple?
Getting Erik a new wedding ring because a little fishy stole it off his finger in the Caribbean (that or it fell off). It’s a good thing we aren’t superstitious!!
